MOBILE DEVICES

mobile device (or handheld computer) is a computing device small enough to hold and operate in the hand. Typically, any handheld computer device will have an LCD FHD or OLED flatscreen interface, providing a touchscreen android version 9.0interface with digital buttons and keyboard or physical buttons along with a physical keyboard. Many such devices can connect to the Internet and interconnect with other devices such as car entertainment systems or headsets via Wi-FiBluetooth, cellular networks, near field communication (NFC). Integrated cameras, digital media players, the ability to place and receive telephone calls, video games, and Global Positioning System (GPS) capabilities are common. Power is typically provided by a lithium battery. Mobile devices may run mobile operating systems that allow third-party apps specialized for said capabilities to be installed and run.

Early smartphones were joined in the late 2000 by larger, but otherwise essentially the same, tablets. Input and output is now usually via a touch-screen interfacePhones/tablets and personal digital assistants may provide much of the functionality of a laptop/desktop computer but more conveniently, in addition to exclusive features. Enterprise digital assistantscan provide additional business functionality such as integrated data capture via barcodeRFID and smart card readers. By 2019, mobile devices often contained sensors such as accelerometersmagnetometers and gyroscopes, allowing detection of orientation and motion. Mobile devices may provide biometric user authentication such as face recognition or fingerprint recognition.

Major global manufacturers of mobile devices are AppleSamsungSonyGoogle, HTC, LGMotorola Mobility and Nokia.

This bendy device earned the title of the world’s first commercial foldable smartphone with a flexible display.

It has also been touted as a combination of a mobile phone and tablet, hinging at the middle to fold into a smartphone-size.

FlexPai’s developers said the screen was “virtually unbreakable”, having passed durability tests where it was bent more than 200,000 times.

Mr Denison said mass production of Samsung’s foldable offering would kick off in the “coming months”.

Meanwhile, Apple is also expected to venture into foldables, suggesting it is very much the way of the future.

Characteristics of Mobile Devices

Mobile devices have similar characteristics. Among them are:

  • Wi-Fi or cellular access to the internet
  • A battery that powers the device for several hours
  • A physical or onscreen keyboard for entering information
  • Size and weight that allows it to be carried in one hand and manipulated with the other hand
  • Touch-screen interface in almost all cases
  • A virtual assistant, like SiriCortana or Google Assistant
  • The ability to download data from the internet, including apps and books
  • Wireless operation

Other Mobile Devices

Some portable music players have access to the internet and can download apps to enhance their value to their owners. Apple’s iPod touch is an iPhone without the phone. In all other respects, it offers the same experience. Sony’s high-end Walkman is a luxurious audio player with Android streaming apps.

PDAs, the business person’s best friend for years, fell out of favor with the introduction of smartphones, but some are being reimagined with Wi-Fi access and with rugged designs that make them useful to the military and people who work outdoors.

Wearables, like smart watches and fitness trackers, are among the newest additions to the mobile device landscape. Many are powered by the same mobile operating systems as phones and tablets, and they’re capable of running their own apps. Most wearable devices are made to pair with another mobile device, like a smartphone to share data and create an altogether more convenient experience.
